Scott David Carney, MD

Scott D. Carney, MD, is a practicing pediatrician at Prisma Health in Columbia, South Carolina, with interests in children with complex medical conditions, pediatric hospital medicine and graduate medical education. He currently serves as the program director for the Prisma Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia Pediatrics Residency Program.

Dr. Carney received his medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences in Toledo, Ohio, completed his residency in pediatrics at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital in Columbia, and completed an academic primary care fellowship at Michigan State University in East Lansing. He is board certified in general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Carney formerly led the pediatric hospital medicine fellowship at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and has served as medical director for the pediatric palliative care team at Prisma Health Children's Hospital–Midlands. Other leadership positions include memberships on the National Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship Directors Council, the American Academy of Pediatrics Education in Quality Improvement for Pediatric Practice advisory board, and the PREP Hospital Medicine editorial board.
