Ratna Pallapothu, MD, is Board certified in General surgery and Fellowship trained in Minimally invasive and Bariatric surgery. Dr. Pallapothu has several years of experience and serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia. He is also the Medical Director of the Prisma Health Hernia Center in the Midlands.

Dr. Pallapothu is a Verified Surgeon of Quality for Hernia – a recognition given to surgeons from the hernia collaborative for their dedication to improving the quality and value of health care for patients who suffer from hernia disease and diseases of abdominal wall. He takes cares of all kinds of hernias and has a special interest in complex hernia surgery with abdominal wall reconstruction for recurrent hernias.

As an MBSAQIP verified surgeon for Bariatric surgery, Dr. Pallapothu meets the highest standards of surgical quality and safety. He conducts site surveys for Bariatric programs accreditation on behalf of the American College of Surgeons. He performs all kinds of bariatric procedures including gastric bypass, sleeve, BPD-DS, SADI and revision procedures.

Dr. Pallapothu is one of the few surgeons in South Carolina offering surgical treatment options for stomach disorders such as gastric stimulator for Gastroparesis. His other clinical interests include GI tumors and cancer, foregut and reflux disease, hiatal hernia repairs, colon, adrenal gland, spleen surgery as well as performing upper endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures and performs procedures with both laparoscopic approach and Robotic surgery.
