Raphaela Shea Fontana, DO

Shea Fontana, DO, is the Associate Program Director for the Upstate psychiatry residency program and a Clinical Assistant Professor at UofSC School of Medicine Greenville. After graduating from Emory University with a B.S. degree in Chemistry, she attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine – Georgia campus for medical school and to obtain her Doctor of Osteopathy degree. Dr. Fontana then completed four years of psychiatry residency here at Prisma Health and served as Chief Resident during her last year before joining the department as an attending physician this past September. While in residency, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society and obtained a Certificate of Additional Training in Sports Psychiatry awarded by the International Society for Sports Psychiatry (ISSP). She focuses on providing care to athletes, college students, and adults utilizing a combination of lifestyle modifications (sleep hygiene, nutrition, and physical activity), psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology. Currently, she works in several different areas within the department as a resident clinic supervisor, collaborative care psychiatric consultant, college mental health psychiatrist, and sports psychiatrist.
