Prem Rabindranauth, MD, FACS, also known to his patients and colleagues as Dr. Rabindra, joined Prisma Health in January 2026 as the Division Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He came from Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he started his career right out of training in 2002 and built a successful cardiothoracic practice based on good quality and superior outcomes. He served as the Department Chair of Cardiothoracic Surgery between 2008-2025 and became a world-renowned minimally invasive cardiac surgeon.
On the leading edge in the field, Dr. Rabindra was one of the first to learn the minimally Invasive coronary artery bypass grafting technique (MICS-CABG) and has performed several hundred cases to date. At his former institution, he taught and conducted educational lectures on the technique and hosted surgeons from both the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Rabindra has presented both nationally and internationally including in China, Japan, India and the Czech Republic on the benefits of the technique.
After finishing medical school at Jefferson Medical College at the Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Dr. Rabindra completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where he also completed his general surgery residency.
Dr. Rabindra focuses on achieving better patient outcomes using minimally invasive procedures including multi-vessel MICS-CABG and valve repair and replacement. He is also proficient in off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting and complex aortic surgery as well as ablation for atrial fibrillation including minimally invasive and videoscopic options.
In his free time, Dr. Rabindra enjoys staying active through golf, pickleball, fly-fishing and travel.
