About LeAnn Perkins

My career as a nurse practitioner began in 2004 in an internal medicine office in Florida with three physicians and three nurse practitioners. I co-managed patients in this setting for 6 years and began my oncology career in 2010 at Prisma Health Cancer Institute in Greenville, SC. The first 3 years with the Cancer Institute I worked in an acute setting managing patients going through cancer treatment.

In 2013, I transitioned to providing care in the Center for Integrative Oncology and Survivorship (CIOS). In this clinic I manage the Lifetime Clinic, which is a new oncology home for people who have completed treatment and no longer need to follow with medical oncology. In addition, I manage patients for annual lung cancer screenings and provide smoking cessation counseling using the Quit Smart program.

In 2017, I developed two new clinics within CIOS’s newly developed department, the Center for Cancer Prevention and Wellness (CCPW); the Genetics Management Clinic (GMC) and the the Breast Cancer Prevention Clinic (BCPC). GMC is for patients who have tested positive for a pathogenic variant predisposing them to an increased risk of cancer. The BCPC is for women who have a higher-than-average risk of developing breast cancer due to pathology, family history, dense breasts, or risk modeling. I manage patients long term in the GMC and BCPC for cancer screening and risk reducing strategies.

In 2018, I helped launch the Prevent Cancer Greenville study where participants can enroll to learn their personal risk of cancer and what they can do to decrease their risk. It is a long-term study looking at molecular profiling for future cancer prevention while educating participants on modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors and steps they can take to decrease their personal risk.

In 2019, I took the lifestyle medicine certification exam to become a certified lifestyle medicine provider.
