As a new patient, I felt welcomed and totally comfortable with everyone in the practice. No suggestions.

Nothing. I was very impressed. All team members were kind, listened and provided through information and answers to my questions.

I recently had a cervical biopsy at a Prisma-affiliated office. The staff were kind, attentive, and checked in frequently before and after the procedure. However, despite asking in advance about pain management, I was not informed of pain-relief options beforehand. I was told the only alternative was rescheduling. I was counseled that the tissue would be "stripped" rather than cut and that the pain would be brief, but the biopsy was performed twice with no pain management beyond verbal reassurance. The pain was significant regardless of terminology. After the procedure, I experienced lightheadedness and nausea and remained in the office for approximately 30 minutes. Only after I stated that I would never consent to another cervical biopsy under any circumstances was I informed that pain-relief options do exist. While the care team was compassionate, this experience revealed a serious gap in informed consent. Pain-management options should be proactively discussed and offered before gynecologic procedures, not only after a patient experiences significant pain. I urge Prisma to review and standardize informed-consent and pain-management discussions for cervical and gynecologic procedures so patients are given real choices ahead of time.
