Joseph Michael Reardon, MD

Joseph M. Reardon, MD, is an emergency physician at Prisma Health and is the medical director of the Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital Emergency Department. He is passionate to provide emergency care of highest quality and value.

Dr. Reardon graduated Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude from Duke University with a degree in biology and a certificate in global health. He holds an MPH, Delta Omega, from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health with a concentration in leadership and management. He graduated cum laude from Harvard Medical School. His graduation thesis demonstrated the importance and feasibility of hand hygiene before and after wearing nonsterile gloves. Dr. Reardon received his residency training in emergency medicine at Duke University, where he served as simulation director for Duke EMS. He completed rotations in Tanzania and Mexico and worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, where he researched the cost effectiveness of vaccination in refugee settings.

Reardon completed his fellowship in international emergency medicine at Vanderbilt University. He served as visiting faculty at Georgetown Public Hospital in Guyana, South America, where he introduced a novel ECG curriculum. He was awarded the Jeffrey Richardson Fellowship in Global Health from Harvard Medical School. He also holds a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and the University of Alabama.

Reardon has championed emergency care and education at the local, state, national and international levels. He served as chair of the Emergency Medicine Residents Association International Division. He has also served as an instructor of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and previously taught Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for experienced providers. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and the American College of Emergency Physicians.
