Joseph Dudding, PA-C, is a board-certified physician assistant with specialized training in psychiatry and addiction medicine, holding a certificate of added qualifications in psychiatry (CAQ-Psy). For the past five years, he has provided care across psychiatric emergency departments, inpatient psychiatric units, consultation services and addiction treatment programs.
His clinical approach centers on building a collaborative relationship where you're the expert on your own life. He is trained in motivational interviewing, which means he won't push you toward change you're not ready for – instead, together you’ll explore what matters to you, what's working and what you'd like to be different. For patients dealing with trauma alongside addiction or psychiatric concerns, he provides processing therapy to help you make sense of difficult experiences and reduce their hold on your present life.
His focus is on evidence-based, compassionate treatment that addresses both your immediate symptoms and your long-term goals for health and stability. This includes co-occurring psychiatric and alcohol/substance use disorders, medication-assisted treatment, and comprehensive care that considers the whole person: your medical needs, mental health, housing, employment and support systems.
Joseph’s path to this work is personal. He has been in long-term recovery since 2012, and that experience shaped not just his career choice, but also how he approaches care. He understands that recovery looks different for everyone, and he is committed to meeting you where you are. He stays current with the latest research and treatment guidelines, remembering that behind every diagnosis is a person deserving of dignity, respect and hope.
He believes in a thoughtful, conservative approach regarding medications. While medications can be powerful tools for recovery and stability, he prescribes them judiciously, considering whether they're truly necessary, whether there are effective alternatives, and how they fit into your long-term wellness plan. He prioritizes treatments with the best evidence for sustained stability, the lowest side effect burden, and clear pathways toward healing rather than indefinite dependence. Every medication decision is made collaboratively with you, weighing benefits against risks, and regularly reassessed to ensure it's still serving your goals.

This provider has earned my utmost respect for him. I'm the past I have not had any say in my mental health treatment other than just put on medication and used as a Guinea pig and I have had to deal with side affects on my own and most of the time I went along with it without even even knowing to speak up. This provider is definitely the best psychiatrist I have had since my auto accident in 1988. I feel a lot better now about my mental health and truly trust this provider with my care. I definitely know that he wants to help me. I wouldn't know what else to do in order to get him the best recognition for his services. But his appointment schedule is proof of his skills and care.

I must say with all sincerity that this provider in this particular field is one of the very best appointments I have ever had within this field. Very thorough and very knowledgeable and respectful to me more than any doctor has ever been in this field. I was very impressed and felt that I could trust him with this being my 2nd visit with him and with me having so tough a time with trust issues which we talked about. When I left this appointment I felt like I was a human being for a change. I have never felt like I was in seeing other doctors in this field since 1988 when I had my auto accident. I feel like with his help I may be able to cope with my life and what lies ahead.

The only way that I really know that that would be possible is for my new provider to have walked where I have walked and been within each setting in my life to fully understand and support my beliefs about my concerns about my life and upbringing as well as my personal experience and relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is the only way that I know of that would build trust in this provider moving forward. I experienced something with a newly met Christ follower like myself at Walmart 4/26/25. During this visit at Walmart this man , his family and me had what we both referred to as what we both believe as having church the way that Christ intended right there in Walmart. This proved to me that I made the right choice in walk away from my family and becoming homeless. Confirmation from the Lord HIMSELF. That's the only way I can see what took place on the above mentioned date at Walmart.

Dr. Dudding's office could be a little bigger! My mother, sister, Dr. Dudding, and I all fit in his office, but a little more room would have been nice! LOL! Dr. Dudding is great! I am very grateful he agreed to meet with some family members for their understanding and reassurance of the care he and others provide me.
