Jeffery S. Martin, MD, graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, and completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Martin completed a three-year residency in thoracic surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, and joined Carolina Cardiac Surgery Associates in 2005.
Martin started the left ventricular assist device (LVAD) program at Prisma Health in Columbia, South Carolina, in 2011, and performed the first HeartMate II® and HeartWare® HVAD implants in Columbia. He is board certified in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery.

I had an ECHO. There was a student there. The provider should not ask the patient if it is ok for the student to practice on the patient with the student standing right there. To say no requires me to appear rude.
