MaleAbout Daniel Joseph Cunningham
Daniel Cunningham, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in orthopedic trauma with Prisma Health in Columbia, South Carolina. He works at various locations including Baptist, Baptist Parkridge, Richland and Tuomey hospitals, with most of his work at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, the region’s only Level I Trauma Center. Level I trauma centers offer the highest level of care for complex traumatic injuries.
Dr. Cunningham’s clinical interests span acute and chronic fractures and dislocations from the clavicle to the fingertips and from the pelvis to the toes. He offers shoulder replacement for proximal humerus fractures when indicated and provides patients necessary surgical care for chronic and deep wounds and infections.
Dr. Cunningham’s undergraduate work was in biomedical engineering and violin performance at North Carolina State University. He earned his medical degree at Duke University School of Medicine and while in medical school also obtained a Master of Health Sciences in clinical research. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Duke University Hospital. He later completed an orthopedic trauma fellowship at the University of Maryland’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, perhaps the nation’s premier orthopedic trauma fellowship, and gained experience from an AO Foundation traveling fellowship for orthopedic trauma surgeons at Leeds Teaching Hospital in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Cunningham has authored more than 80 publications, covering a range of basic, translational and clinical research within orthopedic surgery. He is an active researcher, enrolling patients in several prospective randomized clinical trials within orthopedic trauma.
Outside of work, he is married with three children, plays violin, and enjoys yardwork and woodworking.

This is much improved since our first visit- we were seen quickly and lots of time was taken with us to make sure all questions were answered and next steps were spelled out. We like working with the same medical team each time as they get to know us.

Well, you could have tell me why you let me come home with a blood clot in my leg. I've never heard that before, so you have not explained to me why I'm still out. You want me to work on this leg? And it's certainly not even worse. So you tell me why y'all let me come home with a blood clot.

Some times it took more than 30 a Hour for anyone to come after pressing the red button.
