I am originally from Columbus, Ohio and relocated to Greenville in 2007 after finishing my MFM fellowship at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Within our division, I have a special interest in prenatal care and outpatient obstetrics, management of Rh alloimmunization and prevention of preterm birth.
I see the practice of maternal-fetal medicine along a spectrum. Some of us lean more toward the fetal intervention and prenatal diagnosis side of the specialty, but my interest has always been more in managing maternal medical and obstetrical complications of pregnancy. It was this interest in maternal health that led me to earn a MPH during my fellowship. This provided me with tools to improve the health not just of women in my practice, but to use quality improvement tools to improve the population health of all pregnant women in South Carolina. I am very active in state-level maternal child health advocacy, and serve as the clinical lead for the South Carolina Birth Outcomes Initiative. I am also the Vice Chair of the South Carolina Section of ACOG. My favorite job, however is still working on labor and delivery.

No. Everyone was kind, respectful, and knowledgeable. Personally I prefer more small talk between providers and patients during appointments, but I realize that is purely my own preference and not applicable to everyone.

I felt as though the provider was trying to treat me as if I were their patient. In fact, I was there to get a scan to go over with my provider. I also felt as though I was being pushed into testing, which I have already declined. The healthcare system as a whole needs to rethink how we treat patients because of BMI.

We received unexpected news during our visit. The doctor should have taken more time to explain and ensure we understood what was being shared. Instead we were hurried to multiple different rooms to meet people which was extremely uncomfortable and awkward. I broke down and was crying and another nurse walked a patient into the room we'd been placed in to wait. Again extremely uncomfortable. Testing was run before we left. There was no explanation on when or how we would receive the results and the provider isn't in mychart to send follow up questions to. This is not the treatment we have become accustomed to at Prisma.

I believe I was well supported and respected during my visit. No further elaboration needed.
