Alexandra Cunningham Rice, MD

Alexandra Rice, MD, is a physician board-certified in both family medicine and geriatrics. Although she didn't decide to pursue a geriatrics fellowship until her last year of residency, the extensive time spent with her beloved grandparents and older relatives during her growing up years should've been the first hint. Throughout training, she realized that working with seniors fulfilled her desire to provide comprehensive, person-centered care – doing things for patients rather than to them and focusing on what truly matters.

Dr. Rice graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina School of Medicine, completed her family medicine residency at Duke University, and concluded her medical training with a geriatrics fellowship at the University of North Carolina.

Her special interests include personalizing care across the lifespan, advance care planning, addressing historical harm to marginalized groups through medicine, mentoring the next generation of medical professionals, and accompanying patients and their families in their journeys with various forms of cognitive impairment and dementia.

A native of Columbia, South Carolina, with family ties in Laurens and Bamberg counties, she loves listening to jazz, swimming, reading, trying new restaurants and traveling in her free time.
