Robert Michael Patton, MD

Dr. Michael Patton is a vascular surgeon with Prisma Health. He grew up in Opelika, Alabama, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his medical degree in Alabama, completed his general surgery residency in Greenville, South Carolina, and returned to Greenville after completing a vascular surgery fellowship. He has previously practiced in his hometown before returning to Prisma Health, where he works in a collaborative academic environment.

Dr. Patton specializes in the diagnosis and surgical management of complex vascular conditions, including aneurysm disease (particularly thoracic and aortic aneurysms), carotid artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, and dialysis access. His clinical expertise includes both open and endovascular techniques, with a focus on restoring blood flow and improving circulation in patients with vascular disease.

He values the complexity and variability of vascular surgery and emphasizes a team-based approach to patient care. His practice focuses on long-term relationships with patients, as vascular conditions often require ongoing monitoring and management over time. He also strongly encourages lifestyle modification as part of treatment, particularly smoking cessation, blood sugar control, and regular walking to improve vascular health.

Outside of work, Dr. Patton enjoys running, golfing, fishing, fly fishing, and spending time outdoors.
