Marcelo Fernandes, MD

I had asked to be referred to a cardiologist to discuss a recent health situation that caused me to be direct-admitted to the hospital for cardiac observation. When Dr. Fernandes came in, he announced that he had reviewed my echocardiogram and that he disagreed with the diagnosis of the condition of my heart valves. He did not explain how he came to this different diagnosis. I had brought highlighted printouts with information from my doctor's visit and referral to the hospital, other cardiac test results, and lab reports with abnormal results. I also told him I was concerned about symptoms I am having. He seemed to focus only on the echocardiogram, dismiss my other concerns, rushed through the visit, and proclaimed that I didn't need a cardiologist. I left with more questions than answers, have no clue which diagnosis is correct, and have symptoms that I am still concerned about.

Dr. Fernandes is an incredible physician. He is so attentive and respectful of his patients.

The staff needs to be more prepared by reviewing the medical record, etc. It felt very rushed and due to no cardiac issues, all test were negative, I was dismissed to primary care. No discussion on what other options to deal with on going symptoms. It was a wasted appointment.

The appointment was a great experience from start to finish. The nurse, and the doctor were simply amazing at their profession! After meeting Dr Fernandes, it was evident that Carolina Cardiology at Prisma Health has an outstanding ambassador. The representation was beyond my expectations, not only professionally but also with knowledge, courtesy, and integrity!

I think the doctor was knowledgeable enough, but he was there to fill out his forms and that was it. At one point, I asked him the same question three times, a very simple question. I was just wanting to make sure of the answer. The other three or four times that I asked him questions, he just didn't acknowledge the question at all. He was in a hurry and it may not have been his fault. He said he had another patient. So I think the improvement would be giving me the option to pay double and have another session. I think he was in there for, well, right at five minutes, maybe six or seven, maybe ten. That just seemed fast because I didn't get the question answered that I wanted to get answered. I asked a, I told him that my primary care guy wanted to get a cardiologist to evaluate what ?

For the provider to actually sit down during the appointment and allow more conversation.

I can't think of anything to improve on for this team. Dr. Fernandesis an amazing and compassionate doctor who knows my medical history, answers questions and is thorough. I recommend him if anyone ever needs a cardiologist. It is so evident that he cares about his patients

The doctor came in the room with a mask on and sounded visibly sick and then told me that he was sick. And I told him that we were just getting over RSV and he continued to treat me while I held my infant. And now I'm just a few days past my appointment and my infant who just got over RSV is now sick again. So I'm unhappy about that case. During the appointment, he did ask me to turn away because he was afraid of getting drones on me and I sat my son in the car seat to get away from him, but we were in very close quarters the entire appointment. So I don't think that was a very professional.

To have the correct patient chart and information

I can't think of anything else. I felt very well taken care for and appreciate the kindness and professionalism of Dr. Fernandes.

Dr ordered follow up ultrasound with high priority. At checkout... I was told that next opening was in January. No options were explored to book appointment at alternative facilities for ultrasound in less than 30+ days. There must be 4 or 5 alternate locations that could do the ultrasound... some in less than 30 days.

This was a FIRST VISIT. The doctor was very friendly, courteous, and professional. The exam and question and answer session went very well. All of the staff and facilities were great.

The reception area is dirty, and needs deep cleaning. Front door is so nasty, we didn't want to touch it. Carpet is filthy and stained, entrance door needs deep clean and painting

Apply the heart monitor at initial visit instead of making me drive another hour the next morning for a 5 minute visit.

The nurse and the physician were kind and respectfully, but the physician seemed rushed and very focused on the results of the Holter monitor only. I provided a list of my BP readings for the last month, but he had trouble reading it because he did not have his glasses. He did not seem concerned about my elevated BP during the visit. No one rechecked my BP prior to my leaving the office.

Dr. Fernandes' care has always been outstanding. He's the only provider who has truly listened and taken the time to understand my concerns. His treatment plans have made a real difference and are helping me get where I need to be with my health. I'm very grateful for his dedication and care. I would say nothing needs to change with his approach.

The Dr had no idea about my medical charts even though he had access to them for 2 weeks before my appointment. This visit was a complete waste of my time.

I only come once a year. Appointment was barely 8 minutes. A portion of that time was mundane chatter.

if the physician's attendant is wearing a face mask, it would be helpful for them to speak clearly!

Dr Fernandes was very prepared for my visit and had studied my health history. I was very impressed with Dr Fernandes and feel confident that he will help me with any medical issues.

My husband and I trust my Cardiologist and there is nothing else to prove that he will do an excellent job in digging deep to Anwser any questions we have about my care

Adjust your calendar parameters to allow appointments 12 months in advance. Send out appointment cards, texts, or MyChart emails 2 months in advance as reminders.

When I was checking out, there was a lot left to be desired with the way that checkout attitude and communication was handled. Just seems like that person didn't care about their job. When we walked up, they were fixing their hair and on their phone and not really paying attention to what was going on. It was very short with us asking questions about availability and time of the appointment and things of that nature. But everything else is good except for the checkout process.

I didn't get seen by the physician I had the appointment with. Instead I saw a doctor with less experience. The primary physician did reach out to me by email after my visit which I very much appreciated.

Not at all. Dr. Fernandes was aware of everything I had been dealing with prior to my visit. (I was very impressed, as my PCP at another Prisma practice could never find the time, or desire, to ever do that.) Very kind staff and Dr. Fernandes was great at explaining possibilities to me and has scheduled me for a heart ultrasound as a precaution. I am grateful for his professionalism and his willingness to take an extra, proactive step in my treatment. Dr. Fernandes has a wonderful bedside manner and impressed the heck out of me!
